FHA 203k FAQs - What experience is needed to become a HUD Consultant?
11/21/2024
It is not secret - we need more HUD Consultants all over the US to help make renovation loan programs available to more buyers and more lenders. There are just under 1,000 HUD Consultants nation wide whom unfortunately cover less area than we would wish. Adding additional HUD Consultants to the list is one of Makeover's number one goals.
So, to become a HUD Consultant, you must meet on of these three requirements at a minimum.
1. Be a licensed Structural Engineer
2. Be a licensed Architect
3. Have 3 years of experience a Licensed Home Inspector (if state required)
4. Have 3 years experience as a Licensed General Contractor (if state required)
Once you've satisfied one or more of those requirements, we recommend you find an online training course to teach you all about what a HUD Consultant does and what paperwork and tasks you must be able to perform. Once trained up, you can apply to FHA HUD to get your certification. There is no online form to fill out so using one of the training companies, like Makeover Consulting, to help you out is a great idea. We, here at Makeover, like to find new consultants who have a combination of Home Inspector AND General Contractor experience if possible. This make for an excellent HUD Consultant
