Experience and service-area expectations

Who the program is for

The source program calls for at least three years of full-time home-inspection experience and good standing with applicable state licensing requirements.

Renovation, construction, remodeling, or estimating experience is part of the press-release criteria. Restoration, insurance, Xactimate, FHA property standards, and draw-inspection experience are useful skills.

Prepare to work across your area

The original criteria describe approximately a 75-mile radius or more. Discuss your coverage and any exclusive-territory eligibility during the interview; assignments depend on incoming requests.

Bring your inspection equipment and a tablet, plus the ability to join live video training. Complete onboarding and meet the independent subcontractor agreement’s duties.

From application to field work

  1. Apply and complete the questionnaire. Share your background and inspection-business details.
  2. Meet by video. Discuss fit, qualifications, service area, and your questions.
  3. Review and sign the subcontractor agreement. It covers duties, pay, confidentiality, non-circumvention, and working terms.
  4. Apply for your HUD consultant number. Makeover helps with its template and process; HUD approval is required for assignments that call for it.
  5. Complete Makeover University. Learn at your own pace with an experienced consultant as your mentor.
  6. Learn the app. Practice the workflow through online and field instruction as needed.
  7. Prepare your local marketing. Coordinate your business profile, landing page, lender-list outreach, and communications to your contacts.
  8. Complete hands-on field training. Work through scenarios with a mentor who can also help on client calls.
